Diary from the Core of Alnwick - daily updates

Before explaining the reasons behind this mini blog, first let me introduce myself. I'm a 25 y.o. junior investment analyst who was a big fan of the original TW. Anyway, as a child I used to play a lot of video games but I wasn't a hardcore gamer. Just had fun with friends. I've started playing TW about two years ago and w64 was my first world. My biggest achievement was the number 1 continent scorer award and by the time I had to quit for RL reasons I was twice the size of the guy ranked 2nd. My next (and last) world was w66 where I reached 12th place both in terms of points and ODA. When I could no longer manage the account due to the lack of time I merged with the world's number 2 at that time. When the merge was finally over, the account was ranked 1st and my contribution was about 40%-45% of the villages. A few months later I chose to join another account because I didn't like the prospects of joining a tribe, which IMO was full of cheaters. Even though my new account was in a really unfavourable situation, having tons of sits and being under constant attacks, including thousands of fakes every day, we have managed to stay in top 3. I sent multiple tickets against the above-mentioned tribe, just like many other players did, and I got sick of answers like "well, it may look suspicious but we can't detect any illegal scripts" or "not all approved scripts are public". BTW, that tribe was led by the owners of a software company who were "encouraging"(forcing) their employees to play TW but never got banned because that wasn't against the game rules. It was against my principles though, so I decided to quit. The account is currently ranked 1st and I hope it will stay that way until the end of w66 :)

I didn't have enough time to participate in the closed beta, although I had a key. Started my village about two weeks ago and here are my impressions
The game interface is a lot more polished in comparison to TW but there is a lot of work to be done. Some unfixed major bugs represent a serious issue and the P2W model needs to be improved as it lacks the traditional premium account, farm assistant and account manager but incorporates features that give too big advantage of players spending a lot of money. Anyway, I'm confident that the developers will fix the bugs and those responsible for the P2W system will find a solution for players like me, willing to support the game but unwilling to take advantage of the current P2W features. So, I'm here for the open beta.

With this diary I would like to conduct an experiment. I'll be sharing details about my progress and strategy which is exactly the opposite of what one should be doing in this game. My aim is to survive as long as possible and make it at least to mid-game but I won't be disappointed if I get rimmed and will take it as a feedback. I'm really here just to have fun, so there is no way to see me plotting. As for now, I'll stay in the one man tribe Mass Recruiters Killer (MRK). The name says it all and is rather indicative of my plans Of course, someone may take me out right after the end of the beginners protection, so only time will show whether I'll be spamming for 4 days, 4 weeks or 4 months (or even longer) :)

3h30m after I started playing my village has 134 points and I'm ranked 99th in my kingdom and 927th in the world. In general, I'll be following the quests, most of which are useful and help a player grow faster. This is the first time ever I start in the core but the introduction of provinces make the players in the core not so disadvantaged to those on the rim, as it is in TW1. I'll try to get LC ASAP because LC is the most efficient unit as far as farming is concerned and everybody who has played TW knows that farming is a key aspect of the game. Troops will be my biggest priority and I don't care that much about points, really. A decent number of LC will potentially give me an advantage over those who will invest their resources in upgrading the resource buildings. Right now, my barracks are lvl 2, the resources are lvl 7 and I've a population of 161, of which 82 is in military. I'm located in the centre of the province which is a knife with two edges. On one had I've more potential noble target but on the other I'm a target for everyone haha As an optimist I think that the glass is half full ;) See you tomorrow

P.S.
Obviously English isn't my first language but you should be able to understand me.

It's been a bit more than 24 hours since my start. So far I've plundered 16k resources and I can definitely say that there is much stronger competition for resources in comparison to the closed-beta. Total military population is 188 and the HQ is working 24/7. Currently, I can't sustain 24/7 ques but I don't really need that. My first priority is to unlock LC (barracks lvl 11) which is technically possible in the next 24 hours but the high activity of the players around me makes it relatively unlikely. I'm 38th in my province and 434th overall.

your kinda slow, after 24 hours exactly reached 50k resources, got 100 lc.....
24/7 buildings etc. should be top rank soon enough^^

Interesting read, I assume we are one of your potential victims, no?

Another 24 hours have (almost) passed. My military population increased to 434. I plundered 24k resources which is 50% growth on a daily basis but still below my expectations. Upgrading the barracks to 11 was possible only because of the quest rewards. The main reason for my slower progress is my neighbour who is growing at the same pace as me and who is actively farming. Even though I'm micro farming, I don't always get full hauls. USER7077 is limiting my growth and his location makes me his most likely first noble target or he may even decide to take me out immediately after the end of the beginners protection, so he can grow faster. We had a short conversation and he seems a nice person but of course that doesn't mean he has no plans to go after me :)

Slow and fast are relative concepts. I'm slow compared to a player whose ambition is to be top rank, though my only short-term goal is to survive. I can't dedicate enough time because of my work, so my goals should be more realistic. I farm one time after I wake up (before I go to work), one time in the lunch break, one more time after work (before I go home) and twice more at home before I go to bed. I suppose you are definitely enjoying more than 5 farming cycles :D

36 hours (nobleman speed) is a long distance, especially at such an early stage :p
From another point of view, the potential victims are potential owners of my villages hahah

If I say I'm playing casually, it won't be true because I'm not just upgrading my resources but I'm not obsessed with the game either. To be rimmed early, especially when other players are outgrowing you, is a distinct possibility. If that happens, I'll just restart and go to rim where I'll have to put less effort.

well-.- you basically become top ranked if you have lots of resources and you gain that from farming with LC^^ this game is totally unbalanced against tw 1 you get too much resources from barbs, should take over a week to reach 200k+ resources but here i am, standing at half a million.
from pure LC farming.

Apparently, the guy right next to me is trying to starve me to death. Getting reports like 1-5 wood / 1-5 clay / 1-5 iron maes me sick but the LC helped me increase my farming perimeter, so things aren't that bad. Although points aren't what wins wars, I can't ignore the fact that he is outgrowing me. Yesterday, I was 20 points ahead and now I'm 40 point behind. In the last 24 hours I plundered 48k resources which was exactly 100% daily growth. Nevertheless, I wasn't able to sustain 24/7 LC ques mainly because of the deficit of iron. I tried to solve the problem upgrading the barracks to 13, so I can balance my resources recruiting MA. Can't tell until tomorrow how successful will that move be but it was definitely costly. My military population is 877 and in the next 24 hours I'll focus on upgrading my resources because I feel barracks 13 is enough for now.

Nearly 900 in military seems quite high, what are your building levels, especially resource ones? When do you plan to be able to recruit Noblemen to conquer new villages?

well micro farming is the way^^
the more lc you got, the more resources you will have and the higher building levels you could get easily^^

I had a busy day yesterday and the last update was over 12 hours late. Here is my progress 71 hours after the start. My military population is ~1330 and I'm still unable to sustain 24/7 LC ques, though I'm almost there. HQ is working about 16 hours a day and I would have already fulfilled my 24/7 LC dream if I hadn't upgraded the resources. USER7077 is becoming a growing concern, especially against the background of the expiring beginners protection. His lead is 75 points and growing, however I got the 100k Stolen Goods award 15 hours earlier than him. I don't exclude the possibility to work with this guy but I'll be cautious.

I'm nowhere close to academy. I won't start upgrading the HQ until I've 24/7 running LC ques and my barracks are at least 15. A day ago all three of my resources were level 12, hq 8, barracks 13, market 5, hospital 3, rally point 3, warehouse 11, farm 12, wall 5 and tavern 2. The new changes are WH 13 (under construction), farm 14 and resources buildings 16 (timber camp U/C). Despite being exactly the opposite of pointwhore, I'm not going to ignore the resources because there are quest bonuses for upgrading them. After some quick calculations I came to the conclusion that it would be good if I upgrade them to 20 or 22 before I go for HQ 20. Here are the calculations:

The attack protection is no longer in force and the real game begins. My progress so far includes a military population of 1932. With the growth of my army I'm able to farm more and if until yesterday my problem was the lack of resources, now my biggest issue is the huge surplus of clay. 95%+ of the 3 pages of market offers are clay for iron. Ironically, I unlocked MA with the sole purpose to balance my resources recruiting MA when I've insufficient iron but now the newly recruited MA and LC are in a ratio of 1:1. The wood and the clay I'm getting from farming are respectively 30% and 20% more than the iron which is rather annoying. My WH can handle 18k resources and I have 5k wood, 14k clay and 3k iron :( In the past 24 hours I kept upgrading my buildings and now I have HQ 10, barracks 14, farm 16 and WH 15. Farm 17, 18 and WH 16 are U/C.

More and more I start to realize how unbalanced the P2W model is. The instant trade and the instant build features give enormous advantage to the players buying crowns. Of course, I'm not saying that there should be no crowns but that they allow those using them heavily outgrow the rest. If there were premium features making the game more appealing and helping me save time, just like in TW1, I wouldn't hesitate to purchase a premium account. But I'm definitely not going to pay for instant victory.

Hey. That is a massive army you have got there. I am raiding almost all day and my headquarters (11) is 24 hours active, still I have got only 7 hundred units, barracks 7 and full farm. 6 hundred points and it seems to me I am stuck to build still bigger and bigger farm and warehouse (20) because otherwise my resources would be overflowing, but I do not have time to upgrade my headquarters and farm. That sucks. How can you be so much good? You are playing as long as me.

BGMKD, where would you stand in a possible all-out war between W.L and RNG? Who would you think comes out on top?

I've noticed same problem, enormous amount of clay and almost non existing iron storages in barbs. Lots of my farming raids return back with very low amount of iron or even without iron at all. I don't know is it intentional design choice or something else, but this affects game play and require revise strategy. Now I need to update iron mine higher than other resource buildings. I don't remember similar problem on closed beta servers.

@Darddy
Calm down :) You should have started later than me cause my first day was on 03.09 whilst you are still under protection. For proper comparison use the stats from my previous posts which correspond to the number of days since your start. What you need most is LC (barracks 11). Ignore the resources buildings and upgrade your barracks ASAP.

@Maple
I really have no clue how likely such a war is. As a leader of RNG you are the one who can tell us. Without tools like twstats and twmap I can't evaluate the situation. There are many RNG guys around me, including one I'm probably going to work with but there is plenty ot BTS members as well. On the other hand, I see no W.L. around, so they should be in the western hemisphere, right? I'd be more interested in a war between RNG and BTS but if you make the first move against W.L. you'll have my admiration.

lol W.L is filled with scrubs,

got lost of mails from them beginning not to bomb them, this one for example

Teodorum wrote today

I am peaceful I do not want to attack you.

my understanding when a tribe go to war everyone should be prepared to bomb hard....

and this is one of many letters^^

Everyone seems peaceful at the start. We will see about that later when you will be spied and without army.

bgmkd: I did not mean that I have got a lot of resources because I upgrade resource buildings. That is all looted. I was able to loot totally all the closest villages (24 barbarians) in my last day to end of protection. Now I can spend my time even on attacking players. I was mostly planning to create a lot of infrantry but now you convinced me that I need those horsemen too.

I started 4th Sep - so one day - but still you have got massive army. I wish I had stables too.

Five 5 days after my start my global rank is ~350 and falling xD. I'm 32nd in my kingdom and 2nd in my province. In terms of offensive troops count and total amount of resources looted I'm definitely ranked higher. I've looted 376k in total and my military population is 2448, excluding 506 in queues. I started upgrading the iron mine and it's 18 (19 and 20 queued) now while the clay pit and the timber yard are 16. It's high time I pay attention to the HQ which is still 10.
