What is the purpose of this building?

The purpose is the same as for the Church. The only difference between the two is that the Chapel can not be demolished by anyone so your troops will always fight with 100% in your first village and in the province where your first village is located.

So...In case you have multiple villages in the same province, the building of churches in the nobled villages isnt necessarry? Or is there a benefit for a church on other grounds like withstanding getting nobled?

Multiple churches are not necessary in the same province as they will not bring you any bonus. You should only build one Church per province because that one church will cover all the villages in the province where church is located.

Unless of course you are fighting against another player and your church village is first targeted and wiped out leaving the rest of your province fighting at half mast...

As I said, it is not necessary, you can build all the Churches you want, but it will take away most of your farm space where the troops could be.
